by Luke Wayne 7/30/ It is good and healthy for a Christian to feel sad when sad things happen. When we face sickness and hardships, when loved ones die, when people we know are unrepentant of sin and are presently bound for hell if they do not turn to God in Christ, in all of these things there is a biblical and proper place for sorrow.   God doesn’t insist that we go to our “happy place” and ignore our sad, yet so many of our churches preach that we will have peace and prosperity just by virtue of being Christians. Scripture, in contrast, tells us that as followers of Christ, we are called to serve a “man of sorrows” (Isaiah NASB) who died a gruesome death.

Regardless, it is a sad epitaph for his career that a man of his stature has been forced to resort to such groveling. He has gone to ground and is no longer doing interviews or even accepting public speaking engagements. We may have heard the last of Eugene Peterson. The lesson here is simple: either the Bible is the word of God or it isn’t. Our text this morning is taken from 1 Thessalonians chapter 2, returning again to verses 13 through I'd like to begin by reading this text to you as you listen carefully to set the Word of God i.

Suffice it to say here, it seems strange to me that if the renewal of creation, political action, and social justice are all essential aspects of the church’s mission that we find so little about.
